Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen have been living apart “for more than a month,” a source tells PEOPLE.
The longtime couple has been away from each other for the past six weeks, as Brady, 45, returns to the NFL and Bundchen, 42, are traveling.
Says an insider, “Giselle is busy with her own life now, and has spent time away from Tom in Miami and New York.”
A second source adds: “During the seasons, they lead separate lives.”
Meanwhile, a third source tells PEOPLE that while Brady’s decision to retire has been a turning point for the supermodel, who has said she wishes she was more present with her kids — son Benjamin Rein, 12, and With 9-year-old daughter Vivian Lake, Brady’s 15-year-old son John Edward, with former Bridget Moynahan – the football legend makes sure to find time for his family.
Says the source, “No other husband gets six months of leave in a year just to be fully devoted to his family.” “And during the season, yes he travels for games and trains, but he also does a lot with his family.”

The couple own a $17 million home in Miami’s upscale Indian Creek Village.
“They both want to live in Miami, they love it, and have a lot of friends there,” the first source says.
He adds: “I don’t think there is any formal separation at this point, they would like to sort things out.”

Brady was kicked out of an 11-day absence from the Buccaneers last month after he was given an excuse to “deal with some personal stuff”.
He addressed an absence from reporters after his return, saying: “Everyone has different situations they’re dealing with, and we all have unique challenges to our lives. I’m 45 years old, man. So much. Something is— is going on, so you just have to try and understand life in the best way possible. You know, it’s an ongoing process.”

The seven-time Super Bowl champion and his Brazilian model wife are “hitting a tough patch” last week, a source told People: “There’s a lot of tension. She was so happy when she announced her retirement, and she When he went back on it, he was absolutely thrilled.”
He added that Brady “knows that this is his last season” in the NFL “if he wants to stay married.”
Brady and Bundchen tied the knot on February 26, 2009, a month after getting engaged in an intimate ceremony at St. Monica Catholic Church in California.
