According to the man who gave Stallone a tattoo of Flavin’s face years ago, Sylvester Stallone had been talking about Jennifer Flavin changing his tattoo long before he filed for divorce last month.
Speaking with PEOPLE, Mike DeVries remembered Stallone—who recently covered body art with a tribute to his late dog and rocky Costar, Butkas – in 2007. A few days later, the couple announced their split.
“I already knew he wanted to do something, because last year he emailed me, called me, and we talked about making Jennifer Flavin. [Wonder Woman]DeVries says.
He explains that Wonder Woman wears a yellow tiara on her head, which won’t “work” on the darker part of Flavin’s hair tattooed on his shoulder.
“All her hair would just shine,” he says, adding that he didn’t eventually change that specific tattoo.

The tattoo artist, who says he has given Stallone many more since, tells People that the actor is “one of those people who knows what he wants.”
Recalling the moment he drew the image of Flavin, Davies says that Stallone made it clear he wanted a tattoo of his face, however, he requested some special touches as well.
“He wanted the colors to be brighter. ‘Brighter, brighter. We’ve got to make these colors brighter,'” DeVries says.

He continued, “We decided on a specific image. And usually when you choose the image, you don’t want to go too far from it… now to work on the face. And I’m starting to work . I get a chin, and I’m working on the lips, and I get the lips done quite a bit.”
That’s when DeVries says Stallone got a little more specific. “He’s like, ‘Wow, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a second. [I] Do you want you to do lips like this.’ And he takes out different magazine covers. And he’s like, ‘Make it this way.’ ,
DeVries says he crafted the image until he got it to the point where Stallone was “happy” with it.

In an exclusive statement, Flavin told PEOPLE of the breakup, “I am sad to announce that after 25 years of marriage I have filed for divorce from my husband, Sylvester Stallone. While we will no longer be married “I will always cherish more than the 30 years of relationship we shared, and I know we both are committed to our beautiful daughters.”
