A man suspected of attempting to kidnap a woman in the Massachusetts town of Burlington is in custody. Burlington police Chief Thomas Browne said 23-year-old Tyler Healey was arrested in Winthrop on Tuesday. Healey was brought into the Burlington Police Department at about 6:05 pm The cousin of the woman targeted in the attack told NewsCenter 5’s Mary Saladna that when their family learned of the man’s arrest, it was the first time in two days that the victim was seen smiling.Browne said officers received a 911 call at 8:20 pm Sunday from a person who said they were driving home from work when they saw a woman being dragged away by a man on Middlesex Turnpike near Great Meadow Road. The victim was able to get away, and police located her upon arrival moments later, officials said.The man, apparently startled by the 911 caller pulling their vehicle over nearby, fled on foot, officials said.The victim of the attack, a 27 -year-old woman, spoke with NewsCenter 5’s Nathalie Pozo, who translated the victim’s comments from Spanish to English. “When I looked, the man was right on top of me. I thought: ‘This man is going to rape me, going to kill me, ” the victim said. “I was screaming. I was trying to fight him off. He was dragging me by one arm. In the struggle, I was left topless.” When the woman in the SUV drove by, thanks to her, it all stopped, “the The victim added.The 911 caller told WCVB she was on her way home when she witnessed the attack. “I came around that last corner and there was the girl being dragged through the parking lot by like her hair,” the 911 caller said. She had no clothes on the top half, she had ripped that off of her, and was dragging her and she was fighting like hell. “Surveillance video from a nearby building shows the situation unfold. The beginning of the video shows the woman walking on The sidewalk in the distance, with the man following close behind. The woman crosses the road, toward Great Meadow Road. The man, seen chasing her, eventually catches up to her in the intersection. The victim wrestles with her attacker, trying to defend. herself. The man grabs hold of her and starts to drag her away before a passing vehicle s lows down to help. The man lets go of the woman and flees the area. “To be able to help somebody else and make sure she was able to go to her family and go home, it means a lot,” the 911 caller said. “This is a wake up call for all of us. We need the public to be vigilant. Everybody thinks this type of thing doesn’t happen in Burlington, and it usually doesn’t, but we all need to be mindful that this, in fact, can happen anywhere. We need people to pay attention, use the buddy system and be aware of your surroundings, ”Browne said.
