If you hand over plastic bottles, Jason Momoa will hand over his top.
The “Aquaman” star shared a video on Instagram on Monday that showed a hairstylist shaving off his long, wavy hair – a signature look for the 43-year-old actor – as he tried to eliminate single-use plastic. Explained the importance.
In the clip, Momoa wins as the hair starts falling out. “Hand me those braids,” he says as someone passes over two braided ponytails to show off the actor off-camera.
“Ooh man,” he jokes, touching the buzzing sides. “I never felt the wind there.”
Momoa, who founded Manalu Water, a bottled water company that aimed to put water in aluminum bottles instead of plastic ones, shared that he is shaving his head to create awareness for the overuse of plastic.

“I’m tired of these plastic bottles, we have to stop, he says.” Plastic forks. All that (stuff) just goes into our land, into our ocean.”
“It’s just so sad,” he says. “Please do anything to eliminate single-use plastic in your life. Help me.”
Momoa hasn’t yet revealed what the final cut will look like, but does tease “we’ll keep going” at the end of the clip.
“Here for new beginnings let’s spread aloha,” he captioned the post.
Fans were clearly torn in the comments section, weary of saying goodbye to their luscious locks but welcoming their mission.

“Hair grows back and it’s for a great reason! I bet it will look amazing,” commented one.
“Noooo, yeshhh! But noooo,” wrote another.
So far, Momoa has saved his signature goatee this time around, but it was his facial hair that he shaved first to make a statement about plastic in 2019, when he launched Manalu Water. In a YouTube video, the actor took a razor to his face and demonstrated a bare look for the first time in seven years. Today, the company promises to eliminate one plastic bottle bound for the ocean for every bottle of Manalu a consumer drinks.
Momoa isn’t the first to ditch his hair for some reason. Last year, HGTV star Chip Gaines chopped off his copper mane for charity, raising more than $315,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
