Providence weather: Flooding wreaks havoc in Rhode Island

After an afternoon of heavy rain, many roads and highways in and around Providence have been flooded.

Continuous rain is forecast for Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Northern Rhode Island, Kent and Washington counties remain under flood warnings until 10:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Floodwaters along Providence Roads, Rt. 10 covered in silt

Video from the side of roads in Providence shows water still covering roadways as it continues to rain into the night.

After being closed for several hours, Rt. 10 The back is open, but parts of the road are covered in silt and mud from previous floods.

“The emergency flood warning is still in effect, and we urge you to stay off the roads for non-essential travel. RIDOT, RIEMA and RI State Police are working to keep roads free of obstructions.

Be safe and don’t try to drive through puddles. Our office will continue to share updates as they become available.”
