Football is back, along with our attempt to understand what will happen during the various football games.

This is the weekly picks item, the MDS and yours is really fighting, picking each game.

I think I won last year. I don’t remember, really. I think someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Will I accept that correction is a separate issue.

Hopefully, my picks for the first week will need to improve a bit. We disagree on four of the 16 games.

For all selections, scroll away.

Bill in Ramso (-2.5)

MDS’s opinion: The Bills are the Precision Super Bowl favorite, and they are the favorites to beat the defending Super Bowl champs in Week One. And yet I have a feeling Matthew Stafford is going to duel Josh Allen as the Rams win.

MDS’s Choice: Ram 27, Bill 20.

Florio’s Tech: long flight, high expectations, hot nights, great rivals. Also, Sean McVay is leading 5-0 in Week One. Hang the banner, and LA . Chalk the W to the people of

Florio’s Choice: Ram 30, Bill 24.

Falcons. Saint in (-5.5)

MDS’s opinion: The Falcons’ offense is about to get better than people expected, but the Saints will still win it in a close and exciting game.

MDS’s Choice: Saint 33, Falcons 31.

Florio’s Tech: Peyton’s later Saints got off to a good start against the unmatched Falcons. We’ll see if it lasts.

Florio’s Choice: Saint 24, Falcons 17.

49ers (-7) Bears . Feather

MDS’s opinion: I’m not sold on Trey Lance or Justin Fields, but I think the 49ers will put up a defensive struggle.

MDS’s Choice: 49ers 13, Bears 10.

Florio’s TechBears don’t have the talent to compete with a specific team, especially not outside the right gate.

Florio’s Choice: 49ers 24, Bears 14.

Steelers in Bengal (+6.5)

MDS’s opinion: Mitchell Trubisky is going to have a better season for the Steelers than people think, but not a season so good that I expect him to overtake Joe Burrow in Week One.

MDS’s Choice: Bengal 24, Steelers 21.

Florio’s Tech: Steelers are always as dangerous as the prey. They are even more dangerous than hunters.

Florio’s Choice: Steelers 23, Bengals 20.

Eagles among lions (-4)

MDS’s opinion: The Lions look like a better team to me – but probably the kind of better team that loses a lot of close games instead of losing blowouts.

MDS’s Choice: Eagles 21, Lions 20.

Florio’s TechThe Eagles have high hopes. The best way for them to start living is to beat an inferior team.

Florio’s Choice: Eagles 27, Lions 20.

Patriots in Dolphins (+3.5)

MDS’s opinion: I’m not as sold on the Dolphins’ new-off offense as some are, and I think Bill Belichick is going to have some defensive wrinkles that help the Patriots win a low-scoring game.

MDS’s Choice: Patriots 16, Dolphins 13.

Florio’s Tech: The Patriots struggle in Miami when they have a better team. How will they do it when they don’t?

Florio’s Choice: Dolphins 27, Patriots 20.

Jets. Ravens in (-7)

MDS’s opinion: Looks like it’s going to be a long season for the Jets and a rebound season for the Ravens.

MDS’s Choice: Ravens 31, Jets 17.

Florio’s Tech: Joe Flaco is not elite. The rest of his team is not either.

Florio’s Choice: Ravens 27, Jets 17.

Jaguar in Commanders (+2.5)

MDS’s opinion: The Jaguars have to get better than the last two disastrous seasons, but the Commanders will win a close game in the first week.

MDS’s Choice: Commander 14, Jaguar 13.

Florio’s Tech: Just as Carson Wentz put the debacle behind him at the end of last year’s season in Jacksonville, here come the Jaguars.

Florio’s Choice: Jaguar 24, Commander 20.

Brown in Panthers (+1.5)

MDS’s opinion: Baker Mayfield took his revenge. In the long run, perhaps the Browns’ decision to move on from Mayfield will be justified, but in the short term, it was an ugly off-season for Cleveland that would be followed by an ugly start to the regular season.

MDS’s Choice: Panthers 23, Brown 20.

Florio’s Tech: Baker Mayfield wouldn’t have said he wanted to fk Brown. But he definitely wants to. And he will.

Florio’s Choice: Panthers 27, Brown 21.

Colts in Texans (-7)

MDS’s opinion: Both these teams are looking better than last year, but I have more faith in Matt Ryan than Davis Mills to play well in the opener.

MDS’s Choice: Colts 24, Texans 20.

Florio’s Tech: Matt Ryan may not be the answer for five years, but he is the best quarterback since Andrew Luck retired. Meanwhile, the Texan is in the midst of a rebuild, with no deadline for its completion.

Florio’s Choice: Colts 31, Texans 20.

Giants in Titans (+5.5)

MDS’s opinion1 seed in the AFC last year, looking more like a rebuilding team than a team trying to go to the Super Bowl. I still think they’re better than the Giants, though.

MDS’s Choice: Titans 20, Giants 17.

Florio’s Tech: The Titans lost 38-13 to the Cardinals at home in a week last year. Mike Wrabel certainly hasn’t forgotten it, and he certainly hasn’t let his players forget it.

Florio’s Choice: Titans 27, Giants 10.

Packers in Vikings (-1.5)

MDS’s opinion: The Packers should cruise to their fourth straight NFC North title and start it off with a road win against the second-best team in the division.

MDS’s Choice: Packers 28, Vikings 21.

Florio’s Tech: Vikings will immediately be better than last year. The Packers may eventually get better too. However, it will take some time for them to reach there.

Florio’s Choice: Vikings 28, Packers 24.

Major in Cardinals (-6)

MDS’s opinion: I like to see the Chiefs win this one big, Patrick Mahomes puts on a show and Kyler Murray struggles to keep up.

MDS’s Choice: Chiefs 35, Cardinals 20.

Florio’s Tech: Many people are sleeping on the heads. Here comes the football world’s first wake-up call.

Florio’s Choice: Chiefs 35, Cardinals 24.

Raiders on Chargers (+3)

MDS’s opinion: The rematch of last year’s Sunday night finale will end differently, with the Chargers taking a close win this time around.

MDS’s Choice: Chargers 31, Raiders 30.

Florio’s TechChargers have a habit of looking at things sideways. For now, though, they are good enough to get off on the right foot by serving at home against a division rival.

Florio’s Choice: Chargers 34, Raiders 30.

Buccaneers in Cowboys (-2.5)

MDS’s opinion: Tom Brady may have taken a long leave of absence during training camp, but when the game counts for real, he’ll turn it on and beat the Cowboys.

MDS’s Choice: Buccaneers 27, Cowboys 20.

Florio’s Tech: Tom Brady has only played at AT&T Stadium once before. The Cowboys will be happy to never see him there again.

Florio’s Choice: Buccaneers 31, Cowboys 28,

Broncos at Seahawks (-6.5)

MDS’s opinion: Russell Wilson will win when he returns to Seattle, but it’s not going to be as easy as some think, as the Seahawks’ defense will turn out to be better than expected.

MDS’s Choice: Broncos 17, Seahawks 14.

Florio’s Tech: The Seahawks lack the horses to keep pace with the Broncos and Russell Wilson.

Florio’s Choice: Broncos 28, Seahawks 14.
