Jennifer Lawrence & Sydney Sweeney’s Wildly Different Approaches To Their Republican Family Members Are Being Compared

last month, excitement Star Sydney Sweeney reacted to Instagram posting pictures from her mother’s 60th birthday celebration.

The rodeo-themed party saw Sydney and her mother wearing cowboy hats and riding on a mechanical bull, as well as dancing with other guests inside the decorated barn site.

Sydney captioned the post from the time, “There’s no better way than to surprise my momma.”

But it didn’t take long for her followers to dig a little deeper, and many were disappointed to see some very problematic things in the background of the photos.

It was quickly noted that several guests could be seen wearing MAGA-style hats that read: “Make 60 Great Again.”

In another photo, a male relative of Sydney is seen wearing a “Blue Lives Matter” shirt.

Sidney also tagged his brother Trent in a post, and a look at his Instagram page appeared to highlight the family’s right-wing views.

In addition to a closer look at “Make 60 Great Again” birthday hats, Trent previously shared a photo of a child wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat outside the White House in 2017.

“Cutest baby ever,” he captioned the post, which appears to have been deleted.

@sydney_sweeney Guess? Don’t bother your fans (many are likely young progressives based on the content of the show that brought you fame). Your family is clearly based on blue Life Matter shirts and MAGA babies.

Sydney soon began trending on Twitter as fans expressed dismay at her controversial political affiliations, with one person tweeting at the time: “I said I would defend Sydney Sweeney no matter what, but I have to go back this time Because girl…”

Another wrote: “Yes people should be held accountable for being in community with fascists, racists etc. You are comfortable enough to be around them and their views meanwhile others will never be. Also, if You’re white so I honestly don’t want to hear your opinion on Sydney Sweeney.”

Yes people should be held accountable for being in community with fascists, racists etc. You are comfortable enough to be around them and their thoughts, meanwhile others will never be. Also, I honestly don’t want to hear your opinion on Sydney Sweeney if you’re blonde.

Another said: “Sydney Sweeney a bold bitch. Either way you didn’t take pictures of them and decided to post them. It’s 2022.”

Sidney Sweeney a bold bitch. By no means did you take pictures of them and decided to post them. This 2022. Is

And Sidney acknowledged the reaction on her own social media page, where she insisted that people were “guessing” and that she had simply attended a “flawless” birthday party.

“You guys this is wild,” she tweeted at the time. “An innocent celebration for my mom’s milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement that was not intended. Please stop making assumptions. Much love and happy birthday mom to all!”

But this backlash only added fuel to the fire, with many pointing out that it was not arrogant to link the MAGA hat and support for Blue Lives Matter to right-wing political leanings.

“You posted an image celebrating racism and you’re shocked you’re getting pushback?” One person tweeted. “Clothes are literally designed to make a political statement. If you agree with it, just say it, but don’t try to find a way out of it.”

“Sydney Sweeney’s response to people criticizing her Klan family is WEAK AS HELLLL happily posing with someone in political attire and posting this publicly, family or not, a statement to me Looks like,” someone else wrote.

“I’m sorry, but if people are wearing MAGA hats to a birthday party, it’s not ‘innocent.’ They can even wave union flags. I get it—I have some relatives who joined the MAGA cult And I don’t talk to them anymore. You have to take a stand,” replied another.

@sydney_sweeney I’m sorry, but if people are wearing MAGA hats to a birthday party, it’s not “innocent”. They can also wave the flag of the Sangh. I get it – I have some relatives who joined the MAGA cult, & I don’t talk to them anymore. You have to take a stand.

And it was a sentiment that many resonated with, arguing that Sydney must either agree with her family’s political views or that she was using her privilege to remain political.

“As a half-white man who cut off all of his conservative family when he reached adulthood, and hasn’t seen them in over a decade, interact with conservative family members when you’re able to cut them off. It is white privilege to continue to do so,” one person wrote.

@BariAWilliams @crastle13 @sydney_sweeney As a half-white man who cut off all his stereotypical family when he was an adult, and hasn’t seen them in over a decade, continued to interact with conservative family members when you cut them are capable of. white has privilege

Another tweeted, “Peak white privilege has nothing to do with someone you ‘politically disagree’ with, because your life isn’t on the line.”

@carterchapman @angem9on @sydney_sweeney peak white privilege doesn’t belong if you “politically disagree” with someone because your life isn’t on the line

Twitter: @SSERABLE

But others argued it wasn’t that easy, with one person writing: “If the politics of Sidney Sweeney’s parents shocks you, you will be deeply disappointed when you find out the politics of most white people’s parents.” Will do, but especially the famous ones.”

Someone else echoed: “You’re not canceling Sydney Sweeney do you think she’ll stop talking to her family because they have different opinions on a political level??? Hi God.”

Someone else agreed: “Seriously leave Brother Sydney Sweeney alone. What do you want her to do, just cut her family out of her life? so ridiculous.”

But this week another celebrity revealed they did exactly that, with Jennifer Lawrence opening up about her decision to distance herself from members of her Republican family in a new interview with Vogue.

In profile, the actor spoke candidly about growing up in a conservative household and thinking she was a Republican until she was 16. She said she thought being a Republican meant “why should my taxes pay for your arrogant lifestyle?” But as she got older, her political understanding deepened.

“Nobody likes to see half their paycheck run out, but it matters to me,” Jennifer said. ,yeah, for the greater good, i guess it’s understandable,

She then revealed that the 2016 election caused a rift between her and her relatives in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky—including her father.

And despite her best efforts to “get over” their political differences, especially since the birth of her son earlier this year, Jennifer admitted she believes the situation in the United States disagrees. To be able to agree to be is “too serious”.

“I have worked so hard over the past five years to try to forgive and understand my father and my family: it’s different. The information they are getting is different. their life is different‘ she told Vogue.

“I’ve tried to get over it and I really can’t. I can’t,” she went on. “I’m sorry I’m open now, but I can’t fuck with people who aren’t political anymore. You live in the United States. You have to be political. It’s awful. Politics is killing people.” “

People immediately highlighted the contrast between Sydney and Jennifer’s approach to politics and praised Jennifer for taking action.

Responding to the profile on the Reddit thread, one user wrote: “My first thought was definitely, anyone who couldn’t expect Sidney Sweeney to distance himself from his family politics should read this article. Is required.”

“I really like that he stepped into the politics of it all and really discussed the tension caused by members of his Republican family (especially after the Sidney Sweeney controversy),” agreed another. Another commented: “Good for not trying to hide or make excuses about his Republican background.”

“Too bad Sydney Sweeney isn’t like Jennifer Lawrence,” someone else tweeted. one more echoed: “Jennifer Lawrence taking a stand against her Republican family. Sidney Sweeney never could.”

Twitter: @jonathanjewel

And others thought Sydney’s publicist should take note, writing: “I honestly wonder whether Sydney Sweeney’s PR team would model their approach this way, especially after reading Jennifer’s interview. When the first swing failed so miserably to improve Sydney’s situation.”

“I don’t know whether Sydney has the care-free and open-endedness to take away the ‘cough frustration’ that Jennifer really has when discussing her family,” he said.

But it was argued that it is also not known whether Sydney actually disagreed with the political views of her relatives, with one person stating: “We also … to be fair … do not know whether Sydney’s What are the thoughts. There is nothing about his behavior that suggests he disagrees.”

“Even if Sidney disagrees with her family members, she’s clearly not as politically engaged as Jennifer, so there’s no real way to make that approach work for her,” Someone else answered. “But it’s not clear that she disagrees with her family in the first place – she has been very calm about her politics.”

Sidney has not commented on the discourse beyond a tweet and is instead posting photos on her Instagram page from her time at the Venice Film Festival.
