Chris Hemsworth says Natalie Portman had ‘real concerns’ about Jane’s return in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

  • Chris Hemsworth said Natalie Portman was worried about her return to “Thor: Love and Thunder”.
  • Because Jane Foster had not been involved in the MCU for years, Portman questioned the continuity of the film.
  • Hemsworth described the role of Jane in “Thor 4” as a “new discovery of character”.

Chris Hemsworth said that “Thor: Love and Thunder” costar Natalie Portman had some apprehensions about the return of her character, Jane Foster, to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“You know, it was a very different direction for the character, and I think some of the real concerns were, ‘Wait, is this a match? Continuity from this…'” Hemsworth told Marvel behind the scenes in the latest installment. Said in-the-scenes documentary titled “Assemblage” was released on Thursday on Disney+.

He continued: “And we just said, ‘It doesn’t matter.’ That’s what happened in ‘Ragnarok.’ We went, ‘Who cares what we’ve done before?’ And so, it was just a reincarnation or a new discovery of the character and she was up for it.”

Portman first portrayed the astrophysicist in the first standalone “Thor” film, released in 2011. She returned in the 2013 sequel, but was not a part of the 2017 film “Thor: Ragnarok”.

Jane was last mentioned in “Avengers: Endgame” (2019) when Thor revealed that they had broken up at some point.

When Jen returned to “Love and Thunder,” it was revealed that she had stage 4 cancer. After the science failed, he summoned the power of Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, and identified the mighty Thor.

“Love and Thunder” filled in some gaps and questions about Jane and Thor’s relationship through a flashback montage.

For the fourth installment of the “Thor” franchise, the studio asked Portman to work and be as big as possible. Apart from weight training and cardio, he consumes plenty of protein shakes.

In the documentary, Portman said, “Despite being in a lot of action movies, I never really did any fight training or anything.” Hence, she was excited to be given a massive opportunity for the film.

“It was really fun to train to be strong for the first time in my life, you know?” He added. “Usually, as women, we’re training to get as small as possible. So it’s really exciting to work towards getting bigger.”
